Delhi, India: Ramphal Singh, Sarangi Player at Dilli Haat | MUSIC

BY AJAY JAIN

The Sarangi is a bowed, short-necked string instrument popularly used in India and neighbouring countries in South Asia. Usually made of single blocks of wood, there are also very basic ones that are made of a clay pot and cheap wood - and sold mostly to children.

You may think that these lesser versions would not generate great music - but they can in the right hands. Like those of Ramphal Singh, who makes these himself and sells at places like Dilli Haat in New Delhi, India. Enjoy his music.
