Test footage shot with the Sony NEX-VG900 and a Voigtlander 50mm F1.5 lens under available light at night. Since the VG900 doesn't have any in camera image settings, I reduced the contrast in post to between -50 and -75 using FCP then reduced the black levels between -5 and -10 to 0 IRE. On some of the clips, I also reduced the midrange and the highlights slightly. (Between 85 and 100 for the midrange and between 235 and 255 for the highlights to be exact.) I did not have to increase any of the levels for any of the shots.
BTW, there's a tremendous amount of detail in the shadows and I could have probably acceptably brought up the levels to something approaching night for day without too much difficulty.
