On Feb 10, 2013, two months after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a concert was held in Newtown, Conn., to bring together the local community in song, spirit and common purpose. For those of you in the greater New York City area, local public broadcasting stations will air the very moving one hour PBS special called “Concert for Newtown,” premiering tonight on WNET Thirteen at 9pm with other air times scheduled in the following days on WNET, WLIW and NJTV. (for all scheduled times and stations, visit the WNET website)
The concert features performances by Peter Yarrow, Dar Williams, Bethany Yarrow & Rufus Cappadocia as well as Newtown’s own Flagpole Radio Café that includes Francine and David Wheeler, the parents of 6-year-old Ben, who died at Sandy Hook Elementary on December 14, 2012. The concert’s songs are interwoven with interviews of Peter Yarrow and Francine Wheeler by Bill Moyers. The PBS special was produced by Peter Yarrow and Jim Brown.
