In October of 2012, Derrick Belcham collaborated with 5 choreographers and 5 musicians to create a series of dance films in the streets of New York City. This series was presented in a series of screenings throughout 2013, and lead to the formation of the PRESSUR.ES arts organization with artist Ruby Kato Attwood.
PRESSUR.ES is an arts organization created in 2013 by acclaimed filmmaker Derrick Belcham and artist Ruby Kato Attwood. The organization creates films that explore the relationship between choreography, score and the edit.
Currently, they are slated to create works with musicians Tim Fain (Philip Glass soloist), Richard Reed Parry (Arcade Fire), Laurel Sprengelmeyer (Little Scream), Sarah Neufeld (Arcade Fire), Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Bon Iver), Simone Schmidt ($100, FIVER), Mauro Remiddi (Porcelain Raft), Casey Dienel (White Hinterland), Pietro Amato (Arcade Fire, The Luyas), Taraka Larson (Prince Rama), Eddi Front, Julianna Barwick, Skye Skjelset (Fleet Foxes) and Marissa Nadler, and choreographers Beth Gill, Stacy Grossfield, Miguel Gutierrez, Emery LeCrone, Mary Cavett, Chloe & Katherine, Haylee Nichele, Chelsea Bonosky, Melanie Maar, Mariel Lugosh-Ecker and Emily Terndrup.
Pressur.es stimulates donations from would-be benefactors to produce new works tied intimately to their funders. Pieces bear the names of the donors, and a concerted attempt is made to close the loop between the artist and the benefactor by way of behind-the-scenes material, personal messages, interaction at screenings and transparency into distribution of funds.
They are presently seeking funding for their current season, and their fundraising page can be reached here after the premiere of this video:
