Elma Arboleras is the inventor of the iBUS system. She created it out of the need to help her own country’s age-old and worsening traffic congestion. She believe that the system can initiate not only the needed “push” that starts awareness from the commuting public to patronize ecologically sustainable mass transport systems and also to offer emerging market economies such as the Philippines another alternative mass transport system at the fraction of the cost of building a light rail.
After long, arduous eight years of self-funded research and project, Elma Arboleras received a reward she did not expect.
Her invention dubbed as the iBUS won a gold medal for "Outstanding Contribution and Application of Innovation for the Public Transport System." in London at the British Invention Award for 2011. The BIS is on its 11th year of bringing together inventors, innovators and designers in a platform that will enable them to promote and advance their ideas.
