A re-enactment of the Highland Clearances in Glenelg, Scotland, for the community of Glenelg, Canada. It was a one off performance on the shore at Glenelg, Scotland by the folks from the small village in the North West Highlands of Scotland. It was was filmed live on one camera, this is a transfer from BetaSP broadcast tape to digital.
More than 500 people left Glenelg in Scotland for a new life in Canada, their passage was paid for out of public funds. During the 18th & 19th centuries many crofters were forced to leave their land in the glens, some were able to make a living by the sea, whilst others were forced to leave Scotland for ever.
