The mission of Change is Simple, Inc. (501c3) is to instill environmental and social responsibility in our communities through environmental education. By educating individuals on the cumulative impacts of their choices, we seek to inspire and empower others to protect our future.
Change is Simple’s hands-on learning utilizes CORE curriculum standards in science, math, language arts, social studies and health to bring environmental education to life. Lessons focus on all aspects of the environment from habitats and endangered species to energy, waste and food systems. The Change is Simple lessons use relevant topics to inspire and empower students to make behavioral changes that have real impacts on the planet.
Change is Simple has educated over 4,000 students in 15 communities including public schools in Beverly, Salem, Marblehead, Saugus, Lynn, Lawrence, North Andover, Brighton, Everett, Gloucester and Stoneham.
Programs engage Students (K-12), teachers, administrators, parents and college interns.
Change is Simple is assisting schools implement recycling, composting, community clean-ups, zero waste lunchrooms, school gardens.

In addition to Education Programs, Change is Simple is helping other organization go “GREEN”. Change is Simple diverted 93% of the waste from the Cape Ann Open Door Food Pantry Empty Bowl Dinner, 90% of the waste from the North Shore Medical Center Cancer Walk in Salem with over 7,000 participants and 80% of waste from the Walk for Hospice of the North Shore & Greater Boston with over 6,000 participants. This work has not only given us opportunities to collaborate with other local organizations, but has also allowed us to spread our mission deeper into the community, reaching people of all ages.
Change is Simple, Inc. has established an effective internship program with local colleges that connects teams of college students to elementary students through environmental education. This program gives college students a positive experience in classrooms with students at multiple grade levels. College students serve as positive mentors and energetic, passionate teachers of Change is Simple Environmental Education Programs.
Change is Simple was founded by an experienced, passionate environmental scientist. Lauren Belmonte brings a lifetime of environmental passion to Change is Simple, Inc. She remembers being inspired back in elementary school about both humanitarian and environmental issues, and her passion for the two has never waned. Ms. Belmonte is a Beverly Public School K-12 alumni and a graduate of Merrimack College with a BS in Environmental Science. Lauren has over eight years in the environmental and sustainability field and over six years experience working with youth. From 2004-2006, she worked on a joint project between the MA Department of Environmental Management and the town of Reading, MA conducting watershed and water quality research. As an environmental consultant, Lauren assisted with environmental permitting, conducted wetland delineations and rare species habitat surveys, and worked on large renewable energy projects such as Cape Wind. Most recently as an Environmental Compliance and Sustainability Specialist, Lauren assisted with LEED construction projects, developed the state-wide recycling program for the Massachusetts Army National Guard, and handled much of the organization's environmental compliance, from air quality to storm water. Lauren is a Certified Sustainability Management Professional, Project Manager and is a member of the Massachusetts Organization of State Engineers and Scientists.
Change is Simple is led by a strong board of directors, advisory team and education committee.
