The Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mount Pleasant,Iowa has been held every Labor Day weekend since 1950, and attracts around 100,000 people for the 5-day event. There are demonstrations of steam and gas powered farm and construction equipment, stationary steam engines, and a steam operated carousel. Visitors can also tour expansive indoor exhibits filled with tractors, machinery, doll collections, and more.

Vintage transport in the form of a narrow gauge railroad, covering roughly half of the site, and a traction railway on the other half, move the large number of campers and day visitors around the grounds. Follow this link to see the Midwest Electric video -

We made our visit while covering the 2012 NRHS Convention. Here’s #6, a Baldwin 2-6-0, from the Surrey, Sussex & South Hampton Railway of Virginia. Complete coverage of this and all of the NRHS Convention can be found on our 137 minute DVD “By Coal, Volt and Oil: Iowa Rail Excursions” -
