Just recently, City Life Builders opened its bright green door to the community on 855 N. Collington Ave. City Life Builders is a woman-owned business that has been working to revitalize neighborhoods in Baltimore since the 1980s. They are currently working on homes in our neighboring Oliver community and look forward to getting started around their model home just a block away from the new Henderson Hopkins Community School.
With a new school under construction, the Cuban Revolution restaurant open and more restaurants on the way, and an exciting new park that will anchor the community, Anne Riggle, President of City Life Builders, describes their commitment to East Baltimore:
"We are anticipating developing about 50 properties over the next several years. There are going to be more amenities and options for buys than in any other location."
Ms. Riggle has the experience to know:
"We were a very significant part of the revitalization of Butchers Hill - before Butchers Hill was ‘Butchers Hill.’ We then we moved up to Brewers Hill, Highland Town, Patterson Park and now we're totally devoted to this Hopkins - EBDI development area."
A neighbor working on the outside of the model home says he is excited to see the change and likes to help out:
"I've been helping them paint, keeping the alley clean - sweeping up. I've been here for thirty years and I've seen a lot of things go down in this neighborhood. Now I'm excited that things are going to pick up and get better than they used to be."
Ms. Riggle talks about the partnerships which have created incentives and services available to make it easier for people to become new neighbors:
"Every single one of our houses is part of the city's Vacants to Value Program. Every buyer we have sold a home to has received $10,000 in Vacants to Value money. There's the Live By Your Work Program - Johns Hopkins employees are receiving significant funds. Other employers are participating in live near your work incentives as well."
"There are also individual benefits - for instance if you're a veteran… We will sit with our buyers and determine what benefits they qualify for and we will help them get those benefits."
“EBDI has worked tirelessly to transition, bring the teams together and have people work together.”
We hope you stop by the model home and take a look as we continue to work with the community and builders to take full advantage of the different services and programs being offered to help make a new home a reality. Watch the video and see some of the beautiful work being done in the community.
