When allowed to keep their horns, cows use them in many ways to gently communicate with each other. Almost like hands, I have seen mother cows gently guide their calves with their horns. or scratch their backs with their horns, but most beautiful is when they clank horns in friendship. Not as much of that in this video, but you can see the gentle interaction between the two. After about 9 months of observing the interactions of 60 dairy cows, I have come to believe that horns to a cow are very important tool and aids them greatly in many ways , including communication. What a wonderful thing when farms allow the cows to keep their horns!
