This is a single image from a traditional Chukchi story about the Seal Woman. In this story, the wife leaves the hunter because he spent all of his time hunting away from home. One day, the hunter could not find his wife and the Arctic Fox told him that Lahtak, the bearded seal man, has come and taken his wife away. They went to the sea to find the Seal Woman with Lahtuk, who promised to pay attention to her and take care of her. The Hunter and Arctic Fox harpooned the Seal Woman and dragged her back to the yaranga, where the Hunter then promised to give his wife the attention she deserved so that she would not leave him again.
