Video documenting the restoration of the pipe organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Brooklyn. Photos and video clips showing the church's exterior and interior masonry being repointed to fix the problem of water penetrating the walls of the church. The Kilgen Pipe Organ is then removed from the organ chamber and the pipes all rigged out. This film on the organ restoration next moves to A. R. Schopp's Sons one of the largest manufactures of organ pipes in the world. They clean and fix the organ pipes. Some pipes had severe corrosion, and took the skills of a surgeon to repair. The Console was entirely rebuilt by Quimby Pipe Organs one of the United States leading organbuilding firms. On June 17, 2013 the pipe organ finally arrived back in Brooklyn on two trucks. The pipes were all rigged up into the organ loft as well as the organ console. This documentary shows the crew setting up the large 16-Open Wood as well as before and after photos of two organ chambers.
The crew returns in August to complete the installation of this pipe organ in Brooklyn and it should be playing in September of 2013.
Olivier Latry, organist from Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, will dedicate the pipe organ on October 17, 2013. Tickets are available online at olrbrooklyn.org/organ-recitals-in-new-york-city/
