Pool of Reflection
This was the completed final design project unit of Industrial Design at Bournemouth University. The brief was open and my peers and myself had free reign to design anything we wanted.
By looking to themes of dreams, wishes hopes and the self, I wanted to design something that was non-profit and for other people.
My solution was therefore a 3D spatial arrangement in a public place that combined colourful elements, lights and water to create a relaxing yet playful atmosphere that would encourage us to explore less travelled avenues within our minds.
To accomplish this the design itself is open to interpretation, allowing people to take from it what they will, want or need. The arches on the outer part give a sense of sheltering that on the inside from that on the outside, whilst the translucent windows show that these two parts are not separated from the others influence. The light flower at the center is forever changing colours to give a gentle, low light illumination to the project to further enhance the encouragement for us to think more of who we are and who we want to be. The pool itself has an image as its base working as a metaphor for that which lies beneath the surface, that in order for us to see we have to pay attention to it.
All these elements combine to create a place for people to think for a moment on themselves in the hopes that they will begin a journey to better understand themselves and to make a stand for what they believe in.
