This is a compilation of video clips shot while working for Seed Effect Microfinance in Kajo Keji, South Sudan during the nation's first year of independence. I was blessed to spend a year with a community full of beautiful, loving, and gracious people. With the music and imagery, I worked to tell the story of this community's first year as free South Sudanese.

Equipment and Shooting in the Field
Canon 16-35mm f2.8
Canon 70-200mm f/4
I needed to be able to throw everything into a backpack most of the time. Back in 2011, a DSLR and two lenses was all I wanted to be mobile and cover my focal lengths. 16-35mm was my go-to.
For audio I attached a Beachtek to the bottom of the camera and wired a lavalier or plugged in a shotgun. Rode NTG-2 was a great short shotgun for the field when running around. I liked to run a boom when I could, using a portable mic stand and a Sennheiser ME-66 with a plug-in transmitter.
I also carried a JVC-HM100 as a backup camera. This was in the days before the Canon C series and Sony FS cameras. However, I am still a believer in always having a small ENG camera in your kit. Having all the tools needed in one package is invaluable in the field.
