My friends and I were downtown the other night and noticed something: a lot of people were on their phones. Texting, checking email, updating Facebook and Twitter, people weren't talking to each other. It has gotten so annoying, that some restaurants have banned cellphones. And what happens after all that chatting, if you want to pay with your phone and your battery is dead? We need a way to keep restaurants and their patrons happy without disrupting service, while building a stronger local community.
I propose a behind the bar charging locker that will safely charge the patron's phone while she is at the bar or restaurant. It's simple. Give your phone to your bartender or waitress, they will lock it in the charging locker, give you the key, and, there you go, quality time with your friends while your phone charges. And when you are done, you will be given your phone, you can pay your tab and be on your way.
We will start out by donating 5 of these lockers to popular bars and restaurants downtown to those who already use an electric wallet system such as Tabbedout and Isis. This will test out the popularity of the charging locker, and determine our growth.
So let's build a better community by putting away our phones, and getting to know the people around us.
