The “chaise d’Hauteville” by ateliers HLB and Julie Legros comes of a commun intention to experiment concrete in furniture. The shape was inspired by an old 50’s chair found in a dusty attic. The structure, of reinforcing bars, is hidden in the chair’s mass. The thin but strong seat, was made possible thanks to a combination of cement and fiberglass. The chair weighs 9kg and can be used both indoors and outdoors.
Today, the model has already inspired a small production of the “chaise d’Hauteville”, with similar materials ; one of paper strips, another of paper paste. Our shared interest for such materials of unsuspected qualities, and for design in experimentation, will lead us to further projects. Coming soon.
