Hoops are commonly used for entertainment and aerobics but I have been fascinated by the way the hoop controls the movement of the body while simultaneously separating the body from the surrounding space.
Through my practice I am determined to master the hoop yet the intrigue lies in the shifts between controlling the hoop and letting it control me. There is no stillness while hooping. When I minimize my movement I see that more of myself is revealed. When I multitask, hooping while jumping, running, going to the floor, etc., I also reveal myself. Who I am is human, awkward, vulnerable--all aspects that I value in performance.
