A short film showing the various stages in making one of my table runners - from screen printing the cloth, through to the finished product.
First step is the printing - I hand print everything on small panels of fabric rather than long lengths as my work area is rather small. I like to keep this simple and generally use only 1 colour.
Once the fabric is dry, it’s time to add an “extra something” to the print ; sometimes I will add touches of colour by using fabric paint here and there; other techniques I like to use are applique and machine embroidery- not only does it make it more colourful but it gives the flat print an extra dimension.
The last stage is sewing together all the fabric panels, which I do using my trusty New Home machine - an old work horse which my mother bought back in the 1980’s and is still going strong!
