“Colours” is a gritty and artistic adaptation of the modern day human experience for a community of New Yorkers on the searching to find themselves. The project is based off of the premise “Everything Is Everything”, showing how the indecision of one central character spreads in a ripple effect to begin and influence the lives of everyone surrounding them. The production deals with issues such as ambiguous sexuality, the psychological effects of single parenting, post traumatic military stress, divorce, politics in the entertainment industry, immigrations, HIV and AIDS, race indifference/issues in America, and much more. “Colours” has drawn comparisons to film projects such as “Kids”, “Paris Is Burning”, “Requiem For A Dream”, “Crooklyn”, and “Girl 6”.
The story follows an ensemble of 10 different New Yorkers that are going through a series of personal and professional changes; through exploring their gender roles, sexuality, financial status, race, and the neighborhoods they work in versus the area of New York they live in; the story weaves together an interesting, powerful, and different tapestry of lives all in one city...
“Colours” is housed by SubUrban Underground Productions, an independent film making and artistic media company founded by Brian Wade in 2004. “Colours” is the company’s first full length feature film.
The process of creating the project began in 2007 in Atlanta and expanded to NYC in late 2008. After extensive casting, workshopping, testing, and growing, the project began filming in June of 2012 and is looking to be wrapped by February 2013.
