Gold Coast City Council have commenced work on the first stage of a three-point-plan to fix badly eroded beaches. Construction began at Kirra with the first rocks laid in the planned 30 metre rebuild of the Kirra groyne.
Mayor Tom Tate says this work will not only push sand north to where it is needed, but will also bring back the world famous Kirra break.
Work is also underway at Burleigh Heads, with sand being pumped from Tallebudgera Creek to restore the once beautiful beach. Locals and tourists are happy to see work is underway, but say council still has a long way to go.
