I was invited by Sarah Last and Dave Burraston of the Wired Lab (http://wiredlab.ning.com/) to attend a workshop with Chris Watson last weekend. For those who don't know, CW is an original member of Cabaret Voltaire and The Hafler Trio PLUS he is a freelance sound recordist with major credits to his name including much of the BBC Natural History Unit stuff with David Attenborough.
The day was also an opportunity to check out the work Dave and Sarah are doing with Alan Lamb's wire project. (His album Night Passage is an under-represented classic IMO) Something of an extension on Alvin Lucier's "Music On A Long Thin Wire" the interesting thing about this variation on the wire music phenomena is the connection with environment. The sound generated by the wires does not require "playing" and will change based on many factors like wind speed, temperature, humidity etc...
This video is a pseudo-documentation of the day featuring sound recorded entirely at the site.
