This video gives a detailed look at the capabilities of my dragon rig, created in Maya 2013.
The neck, spine, and tail all have dynamic hierarchies that allow for a wide range of deformations. The dragon's head controls provide for independent movement of both the upper and lower jaws allowing for the breaking of the jaws to really push poses. With four joints in the hind leg chains, a spring ik was utilized to maintain proportional angles among all joints in the chain. A muscle deformer was applied to the geometry and influence was added in the dragon's wings and belly for some subtle secondary movement.
