LamatDance has co-designed, planned and coordinated several three-year Creative Partnerships and Royal Opera House projects to develop creativity in Primary and Secondary Schools in UK.
‘Dancing Words’ is a 30 minutes documentary illustrating the process of using dance and story telling to teach literacy to Year 3 & 4 students at Prince Avenue Primary School.
The documentary shows the methodology developed by dance practitioner Carmen Vilches and it hopes to serve as a teaching tool for schools’ teachers interested in developing new and creative ways of teaching literacy.
The project also involved animation and story writing. It involved two year 3 & 4 groups of 30 children each. One group worked with a scrip writer and a film- maker to develop a story and make it into animation inspired by children who live in the coffee region of Colombia. The other group worked with the choreographer to create a dance piece based in the story.
