"Presenting daphne Indigenous Artist-Run Centre" a talk by Lori Beavis

Foreman Art Gallery // ArtLab

Indigenous artists have been dreaming of their own artist-run centre in Tiohtià:ke / Mooniyang / Montreal for a long time. In response to that need, daphne was founded in 2019 by Hannah Claus, Nadia Myre, Caroline Monnet and Skawennati - four Anishnaabe and Kanienkh :ka artists based in Tiohtià:ke.

Hosted by the Foreman Art Gallery's ArtLab in collaboration with Bishop’s University’s Indigenous Students Support Center and Fine Arts Department, this talk features daphne’s Executive Director. In it, Lori Beavis presents the motivations and experience behind establishing the first Indigenous artist-run exhibition centre in the province.

The in-person event was open to both Indigenous and Fine Arts students, and took place on March 16, 2022, in the Molson Fine Arts Building at Bishop's University in Sherbrooke, on the traditional and unceded territory of the Abenaki also known as the Ndakina.
