The latest in QinetiQ's 'People Who Know How' series of films, we meet Chaz Taylor, Hyperbaric Facility Manager.
Find out about Chaz and his work on the altitude chamber at MOD Boscombe Down.
QinetiQ operate and manage a hypobaric chamber capable of replicating ambient pressures and gas profiles associated with operations at altitude. This includes capability for investigations of hypoxia (where the body fails to get sufficient oxygen) through to studies of the impact of rapid decompression on survival and operations. We conduct both assessments of human response to operations at altitude as well as assessing the effectiveness of life-support systems designed to enable effective operations at altitude. The chamber can accommodate up to 8 people, and can simulate altitudes to in excess of 100,000 ft. Rapid decompressions of 70kPa in 0.1seconds -- equivalent to a change in altitude from 8,000 to 65,000ft -- can be achieved.
