TEAM PHOENIX - Genre: Crime/Gangster, Character: Laura Schlecht, Event Planner; Prop: Phone Charger; Line of dialogue: "It's my first time/It is my first time."

The 48 Hour Film Fest is the single best exercise in learning as a filmmaker all the nuances of the craft. It's often a painful experience: 2 years ago I wrote and edited the winning piece (JACK'S LAST FANDANGO), last year I made a noble disaster that I plan on re-editing (TELESTAR), which I have decided to do based on how happy I am with this effort. Is FIRST OFFENSE perfect? No, but a 48 Hour timeframe to execute an entire short film concept-to-completion is most assuredly not going to be perfect. The 48 is all about hard choices, and letting go of one's desire for perfection. George Lucas hasn't let a decade go by that he doesn't re-tool and tinker with STAR WARS... Perfection is an elusive rabbit hole. 48 Hour Film Fest is as close to a zen experience you can get - If you maintain the right frame of mind. Mad props to my cast and crew... Any errors you see are mine as director and team leader. Always something to improve...
