This is a video version of Qube Chix' BALD BOYFRIEND. It's performed by The Qube Chix (Leigh Evans, Julie Queen, and Pamela Z) with Hillary Maroon (clarinet) and J Why (drums). The song was composed for the Qube Chix by Pamela Z in 1991, shortly after they completed the run of a Soon3 performance art production called "Ace Taboo".
Throughout the early 1990s - early 2000s, The Qube Chix performed this song, armed with electric hair clippers, at clubs and performance galleries (from San Francisco's DNA Lounge to New York's CBGB's Gallery 313. As they sang the first two verses, their appointed "bouncer chix" would search the audience and find them a long-haired guy in need of a trim. The "bouncer chix" would drag said shaggy audience member up on the stage and The Qube Chix would give him a haircut while performing the bridge of the song. They would then release the shorn guy back into the audience as they sang the last verse of Bald Boyfriend.
For this shoot, the Qube Chix enlisted four boyfriends (Mark Maggi, Mark Pritchard, Kinji Hayashi, and some already bald guy they found riding a chopper out on the street) to assume the role of the Bald Boyfriend. The video was shot and produced by Paul Lundahl and Eric Ladenberg at the Marsh Theater in San Francisco in the mid 1990s.
