Hemmed in by three A-roads, cut-off from any train station and on the fringes of a South London borough, arriving in Horn Park feels like finding yourself at the edge of the earth. Yet looking back towards the city of London the Canary Wharf Tower seems like a stones throw away.
The building of the Horn Park Estate began in the 1930s yet was completed in the 1950s. Over 50 years later in 2009 it was awarded it's first bus route!
We were commissioned by Thomas Tallis School to run a film project with Horn Park Primary School who dedicated a whole week to exploring their local history. One of the outcomes was this film.
It was an interesting film to make in that we turned up on the estate with a camera and a boom mic with the intention of getting to know the place and it's people without any prior knowledge of the area.
Over the course of a week and with the help of some enthusiastic year 6 children we discovered some compelling stories and received an extremely warm welcome from the local community. It was as though residents of Horn Park felt honored that finally somebody felt they were worthy of being filmed!
