It's a common misperception that horses used in rodeos are 'wild' or 'frightened' and cannot be ridden.
Not only was this magnificent Warmblood gelding, St Louis, crowned Australia's Bucking Horse of the Year multiple times, but was also a registered EFA showjumper.
During the 1990's St Louis could be seen showjumping at an agricultural show, then performing the same evening in the Saddle Bronc ride in a rodeo.
For all the horses owners out there - you will know that a horse will not perform if they do not enjoy their 'job', and St Louis is a perfect example. A talented showjumper, a job he was bred for, but he loved nothing more than ditching a cowboy in the rodeo arena.
The obvious question...did he buck in the showjumping arena? No, he didn't. All I can say, is that he was just... 'bored', and always jumped better the day after conquering in the rodeo area. What an interesting, unique and talented animal.
