In 2013, CreativeRHINO's Ryan Gates and Kathryn Van Steenhuyse entered the CreativeRush & Tallgrass Film Festival "Down To The Wire" 24 Hour Film Race. At the start of the 24 hour race all producers found out the required criteria for the films:
THEME: Identity Theft
PROP: Car Radio
ACTION: Slap in the face
DIALOGUE: "You can't stand up in a Cadilac, either."
Producers also had the option to sign up and film at a bonus location: An airplane cockpit. All films had to be 6 minutes or less. The race started at 7 PM on Friday, August 9th with films due on Saturday August 10th at 7 PM precisely.
Our team consisted of Ryan W. Gates wearing all production hats and Kate Van Steenhuyse wearing all administration hats. The catch for us was that we specifically wanted to make a film as a family, starring our family, and about family. So not only did we have 24 hours to complete it...we had a 2-year-old (Max) and a 5-month-old (Dodge) to care for without any sitters or outside assistance.
We nailed our schedule, the boys were great, poor Dodge was up all night with a tooth coming in, we had fun, and in the final hour...we had technical difficulties...and thus missed the deadline by 4 minutes. Though we were unable to be a part of the CreativeRush festival competition at the Orpheum Theater, we were selected as one of ten films in the "Down To The Wire Showcase" at the 11th annual Tallgras Film Festival where it was well received in front of a packed house. We hope you enjoy!
