I recently upgraded to the Canon 5D mark III and became aware of a post-production filmic effects tool called Film Convert Pro which does an amazing job of taking HD DSLR video and making it look like different film stock. I decided to take some shots of my mountain bike and see how close to a filmic look I was about to achieve with the power of the camera and a minimal post production workflow.
After studying the effect from the trial Adobe Premiere plugin, I decided I would try to match some of the effects using native Adobe Premiere CS6 plugins. It took a while to get the film grain looking good as well as achieving the right contrast without loosing details, but I am impressed at what I can get out of Premiere CS6 and the 5Dm3! I could still imagine making use of the Film Convert Pro plugin, but I am more interested in seeing what I can get out of Premiere first.
I may render a source version without any effects for comparison but we will see.
