Luke’s beautiful story of the birth of Jesus has captured the imagination of people and artists over the centuries. Yet the details of the story may for some have overshadowed the profound mystery that took place.
The Gospel of John, from which today’s passage is taken, made no mention at all of any details of Jesus’ conception or birth. Instead it was prefaced by an ancient hymn, dated from the first century, which contained an astonishing reflection on the mystery of Jesus and the incarnation.
