Entrepreneurial spirit is a human quality that springs up everywhere. And here in Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world, creative entrepreneurs are on every street corner and in every farmer's field.
The Business Bomba competition galvanises this spirit and transforms it into concrete businesses, calling on anyone with a good business idea to enter Sierra Leone's version of The Apprentice or The Dragon's Den.
Over 600 contestants, with ideas ranging from fresh juice production to cold storage to lemongrass oils production, enter the 2012 contest. Each contestant benefits from professional coaching to perfect their business plans, but only 20 finalists are selected to enter The Lions Den.
Here they must defend their business idea in front of five Lions - the best and brightest of Sierra Leone's private sector.
Who will make it to the Lion's Den? Who will win the grand prize of 100 million Leones [$23,000]?
With funding from International Finance Corporation (IFC), this short film tells the story of the 2012 Business Bomba competition and how, with training, capital, ideas and hard work, small businesses can be grown even in the most disadvantaged situations.
