#BeefCornellUGA #MyQuestion regarding #lightpartying #allowable #HomelessShelters #SafeHarbor, nobody wants it #intheirbackyard; but putting it directly between the #jail and #prison doesn't send the right message either... Methadone clinics were feared at first & people came to admire those folks trying to help themselves in their lives and didn't mind them being close to their neighborhoods. How about the vacant Bowling Alley on Mason St. or some old Church that did not financially make it through recession that is a little closer to society... #Homeless aren't necessarily #criminals, just often put into violating local codes because they are homeless... so why stash them next to criminals when they should be closer to the integration point with society. They should be #allowed in a remote corner of the #governmentfundedproperty to have #happyhour drinks! They should predominantly be a dry facility other than the allotted Happy Hour times. Those who repeatedly break laws or harbor rules while under the influence should not be allowed this privilege. Homeless should be allowed in shelters and Safe Harbors without drug testing for the first few weeks. THC which remains in urine for months should not exclude homeless from securing sheltering. Other drugs in urine after two weeks of getting a chance at a roof over head, no problem kicking them back to streets & even some incarceration, but not without a shot at treatment or education first. My idea of rules, boundaries, and #toughlove for the homeless are much more #lenient than Councilman Wagner.
How can you help the homeless locally?! They need to freshen up / shower!.. Put environmentally friendly liquid soap dispensers at all beach showers and place stickers on them #SHOWER FOR THE HOMELESS, with an appeal for them to keep all undergarments on while showering as to not violate indecency laws. If they overuse these to the point of inconveniencing surfers and beachgoers, build more showers at localized parks. If you own a business, allow a homeless individual to #freshenup armpit and groin areas, as well as face etc. in your place of businesses bathroom; fully knowing one of your employees will have to clean up the bathroom after they leave & explain to employee that this cleaning duty is a proud part of your philanthropic efforts for those less fortunate in our community. Convince the homeless individual to use the handicap stall sink; if one exists, that has privacy, is behind stall dividers; and out of eyesight from remainder of restroom.
If you have #restaurant #leftovers after a big meal out and see the homeless on the way back to your car or pad; simply ask if they would like to eat your leftovers; don't give them money, even if they ask for it... just give them the food. Communities like Ithaca, Burlington, and Boulder allow pan-handling. Florida cities do not, like Daytona Beach, so until these laws change be leery of handing them money & I hate having to say this... Giving them a job, a pad, or job education is better than simply cash which gets spent rapidly and does not fix situation...
Once you get them in a half-way to sheltered place; light caffeine, alcohol, and cigarette & herb smoking should be allowed at public funded facilities, on-site at certain designated times away from the masses who choose not to party. Hard / powdered /crystalized / prescription drug abusers should be sent towards drug abuse rehabilitation and education facilities and given extra chances prior to simple incarceration which only prolongs the period before they can get help to fix the problem.
Near or at these "Half-way to Home Owner / Apartment Renter" Safe Harbors you should have a place similar to Challenge Industries (A workshop / building / warehouse where monotonous odd jobs of envelope stuffing, folding, easy data entry, storage, packaging, & shipping gets done at extremely discounted rates to local businesses who need these tasks done regularly with tax dollar support for lean times for the workshop / building proximal to the safe harbor.
Don't unleash more homeless on our community Mental Health Facilities simply because you don't have funding for their meds or counseling treatment. Can't #letloose those #stillinneed of #medicine or #counseling for #mentalhealth #issues #justdueto #lackoffunding #exacerbates #lawenforcement #jails #shelters and #creates #homeless people & #homelessness ... #witnessed #firsthand #WashingtonDC #soupkitchens #findmoney #dontcreateproblems #forothers #aswell as #yourpatients .
