Aug 11 3 Essentials for Living Successfully: #1 Preparation
Although no two lives are the same, no one lives a problem-free life. A consequence of that is that there is potential to experience failure in life. In 1 Timothy 1:18-19, Paul counseled Timothy to live well so that he might avoid shipwrecking his life. The story of Joseph in Genesis 37-50 is a great example of a man who could have shipwrecked, but instead succeeded in life.
A key ingredient to his success was the fact that he prepared himself for potential pitfalls, such as the one described in Genesis 39:1-21. He was faced with an enormous temptation to give in to sexual immorality but put some walls of protection around himself and developing a back-up plan if the walls were breached. Although he was falsely accused and imprisoned, he went to prison with his character & conduct intact. (God would use that to bless him.
Preparing to succeed in life involves both planning to prevent failure and planning to be productive with the lives God gives us.
