For Nike, we created an interactive installation that showed the flexibility of the new Free 5.0 shoe. Our concept was to allow users to control and experience the flex of the shoe - simply by moving their bodies.
We built a custom application using openFrameworks and a Kinect camera for tracking the users. The application uses multiple layers of high definition video which can be controlled dynamically in real-time. To ensure this was stable and smooth, it was crucial that we used the latest hardware to run the application.
Since Nike was already working with an agency in L.A. for the global video commercial — we were able to re-purpose the amazing shoe flexing shots for our installation.
One of the key hurdles we had to over come was to get people's attention in an already cluttered busy retail space, so we built in a responsive silhouette system so that people could instantly see themselves being tracked on screen.
The interactive was installed in London, Amsterdam, Manchester, Milan, Antwerp, Stockholm and Barcelona.
