All her life Katharine considered herself a healthy eater but in 2010 most of what she had thought was proper nutrition and diet proved to be wrong. She had never been so sick in her life and landed herself in the emergency room after severe pain and bleeding. The doctors recommended that she have surgery immediately but she chose to be stabilized with medications first. She was treated with medications with intermittent hospitalizations for 2 1⁄2 years. Finally in March 2013 after much research and credit to people like Dr. Ahn and her friend Lisa who had the same illness, she was on a plant-based diet that has been helping her feel great. She is currently almost fully recovered and now has a passion for sharing her story so she can help others avoid the pain and suffering she endured.
