Created as a collaboration between MIT Sensible Lab, Pentagram and SuperUber, Makr Shakr is an innovative social experiment: a robotic bar, able to prepare drinks based on crowd input. The robotic arms serve guests that can customize their drinks or order pre-existing cocktails via a mobile app. The robot also measures and tracks the popularity of certain drinks, which is displayed on a large data visualization screen above the bar, along with wait time and other data. Makr Shakr also has the capability to cut people off when they’ve gotten a little too far — the system can monitor its patrons’ booze consumption and approximate blood alcohol content.
SuperUber developed the data visualization and creative technology – interfacing between design, code and hardware. The futuristic project premiered at the Milano Design Week 2013, in Italy, and participates in various events such as Google I/O 2013 in San Francisco, USA.
