This is an audio excerpt from the movie “Clue,” based on the board game with the same name.
The goal of the project was to use only text and line as the design elements. To achieve this and to stay with the movie’s tension of being trapped within a house, I kept the text confined within the frame of the window just like the characters confined to the house. The text only breaks out a window a few times for design and pacing.
Each character is represented by a different color with most colors corresponding to the characters names (EX: Colonel Mustard is yellow). As not to confuse the viewers with a different typefaces for each character, I decided to only use one. Futura Std was the typeface that I used because it is easy to read, as some of the characters talk fast, and is closely resembles the typeface of the Clue logo.
