When Eric Pehota arrived in Whistler in 1984, it was a wild place. Over the next decade and a half, Pehota and his ski partner Trevor Petersen would become veritable household names in the world of ski mountaineering, as they notched first descent after first descent, both in the Coast Range and worldwide. Tragically, Petersen perished in an avalanche in 1996, but Pehota continues to live an adventurous life in the Whistler area. We caught up to him to talk about the past, the present, and most importantly, the future generations of skiers he continues to inspire.
