This was a pitch shot I designed and created for London motion design studio - SPOV for a broadcast show they were pitching on at the time.
After looking at alot of references on NASA's material. I came up with a way to depict the sun in space as if we were viewing it from a space craft with safe filters on.
I used a combination of live action elements warped and distorted along with some noise textures to create the look and feel of the Sun surface. The sun-flares were a combination of ink in water graded and enhanced to look like solar flares.
The only CGI element used was a sphere rendered out with a procedural noise texture, everything on top is all VFX compositing with live action elements treated, warped, colour corrected, retimed and layered with motion blur and camera shake to give that viceral feeling.
I composited the entire sequence in Shake.
