I was Associate VFX Supervisor on this great project for NOVA / PBS at Prime Focus Broadcast VFX.
The shots featured here were all VFX designed by me working closely with the Director - Oliver Twinch and Composited by me in Nuke.
The CG was created in Maya and rendered out in Mental Ray. For the close up shot of Jupiter's storm I used high speed elements of smoke layered up and treated with warping to create the desired effect. For the shot of the presenter walking on the Encaledus surface I used high speed powder elements to create the feel of low gravity interaction and kick up.
It was a great and fun project pushing the imagination with good use of VFX and CGI.
Me and my colleagues were nominated for a Visual Effects Society (VES) award for 'best vfx in a mini series' 2011.
