Between the water & I

‘between the water & I’ is generating itself as a set of tools to confront ‘the human’ with their cause of corruption to the land. The role of unveiling this narrative is re-attributed to algae, empowering its role while materializing it. Consequences of human actions on the land are being revealed and reenacted in this setting of a deconstructed laboratory: an interpretation of a ‘glove box’ as a mapping mediation, and a rake to be used for manipulation.

A performative act is done through following the steps of the art of paper marbling as an artificial mesmerizing reflection of the algal bloom on water bodies. Within the pseudo-aquatic environment, Dommel river is firstly heavily polluted with nutrients, causing an algal bloom, as the natural cycle follows. Thus, it is aimed to embed the intricate chain of relations (biological and political) and capture this complex narration as an aestheticised artefact. Accompanying the performance, a video will be projecting the personal disturbed mediation about the ecology of Brabant throughout this whole project.
