MAGICIAN CODY SANDERS LAUNCHES VIDEO CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT RUSSIAN LGBT VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE
August 19, 2013
SAN ANTONIO, TX -- Magician Cody Sanders today launched a video campaign to bring attention to the plight of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) victims of violence and legal persecution in Russia. In the video, titled "Lifeline," Sanders swallows razor blades to represent the hardships recently faced by Russian LGBT people. The video was released to the public via YouTube. "What's happening in Russia must be stopped," Sanders said. "People are dying, and LGBT teens and adults are living in constant fear."
Sanders's magic performances typically include a lot of comedy, but he wanted to do something different to show his support for the people of Russia. "When I read about what was happening, I honestly wanted to shut off my computer and throw up," he said. Instead, he channeled his anger into a new performance. He chose a classic magic trick that often disturbs audiences as the best way to communicate the equally disturbing events taking place in Russia.
