The Pipe Organ at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Ditmas Park Brooklyn was built over 80 years ago and installed in before the church was completed in 1934. In 2007 it was removed from the church and shipped to Alliance, Ohio. In June of 2013 it was shipped back to Brooklyn fully restored. It is currently in the final stages of being reinstalled in the church (August 2013). The restoration was paid for largely by small donations by almost 1400 people, most of who have never been to Brooklyn. We still need some additional funds to hit our financial goal. The pipe organ had already been rigged in and setup in June. This video shows the wind system getting connected and the installation of the new electrical system. A crew of 5 men are working 10 hour days 5 1/2 days a week to have the pipe organ playing by mid September. The church structure was extensively repaired and there are several before and after "flash backs" in the video.
This pipe organ will be dedicated by Olivier Latry a organist at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on October 18, 2013 at 7pm. For more information about this recital and to purchase a ticket click here: olrbrooklyn.org/organ-recitals-in-new-york-city/
