Bridgewater could be one of the first municipalities in Nova Scotia to legislate a ban on plastic bags that are used to carry out groceries and other purchases. Town council recently passed a motion directing staff to research and prepare a report and recommendation pertaining to a plastic bag ban or bylaw with a goal to approve a policy to take effect next year with the "ultimate goal" being a so-called bring-your-own-bag bylaw or prohibition on plastic bags.
