Points of Light, The King Center and Target hosted the Atlanta kick-off of the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington on August 11, 2013. President Jimmy Carter, Dr. King’s daughter Bernice A. King, and recent Presidential Medal of Freedom honoree Rev. C.T. Vivian, participated in the event as speakers and panelists, along with Doug Shipman, president of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights; Dr. Dione Simon, principal of the Coretta Scott King Young Women’s Leadership Academy; Laysha Ward, president of Community Relations for Target and Delores Morton, president of Programs for Points of Light. America’s Sunday Supper is a Points of Light program that kicked off with the 2013 MLK Day of Service in January; its goal is to bring 100,000 diverse Americans to supper to discuss and collaborate around pressing community issues, including education, the economy and youth empowerment.
