“Testing Ground - A region resembling a laboratory [offering] opportunities for observation, practice and experimentation.” - The Free Dictionary
After debuting Trans-Formations: A Brilliant and Dark Remix Event at The Others in October 2012, artist singer and composer Ellen Southern returned to present another eclectic night of innovative creative explorations. Testing Ground was a one-night laboratory for testing out new interdisciplinary works. Live performances were presented by over 10 emerging and established musicians and artists, including graduating students from the Performance and Visual Practices MA at the University of Brighton.
This multi-disciplinary ‘testing ground’ drew together music, dance, live art, video and electronic soundscape. The event explored many stages of experimentation; work in progress, specially developed works, debut performances and continuing collaborations formed from Southern’s previous event at the venue.
Participating artists - Lucie Beardwood, Danny Bright, Daona (Fiona McAlister and David Solomons), Dead Space Chamber Music (Tom Bush and Ellen Southern), Hollie Lewis, Katy Pendlebury, Abbie Phillips, Nichola Richards and Kelly Thompson, Cloe Turpin, Salt (Harriet Rose Lambert and Polly O’ Flynn) and Clare Whistler (collab. Ella Jarman-Pinto - composer / Hannah Watts - flute / Charlotte Runcie - poet). Performers include Kareem Dayes (cello), Laura Gwynne (dance), Jennie Howell (percussion), Holly Anne Rolfe (vox) and Adel Sahnoun (flute).
