Thanks to the inspiration from Russ R. and River_Snorkel we visited the Skykomish River this past weekend. I am interested in the story surrounding the proposed weir at Sunset Falls and wanted to make sure I wasn't out of my mind and that this beautiful wild river IS worth protecting in its natural state. I'd read about the history of pollution from the railroad industry, and wanted to see how things looked.
As soon as I put my face in the water I was rewarded with schools of baby Coho salmon, whitefish, suckerfish and trout and from my work in the area of Stormwater, i know that the coho are a delicate indicator species. What this implies to me is that at least where we were, the river is pretty healthy.
The verdict.... DON'T DAM THE SKY!!!!!
