theatre, music and visual art. Hundreds of pieces of porcelain crockery dangle on strings creating a decadent air which sets the scene for an erotic allegory about power, lust and desire.
As well as exploring the history of porcelain in relation to its colonial value, the porcelain installation which inhabits the stage provides distinct boundaries for the choreography. The dancers embody its porous material, enabling them to extend beyond its limitations, igniting imaginations towards the hope that a different world is possible.
Needcompany, founded by Jan Lauwers and Grace Ellen Barkey, is a Belgian performance group working across different art forms. Since its inception in 1986 it has created an impressive series of stage productions that have toured internationally throughout Europe and the United States. Needcompany comes to London for the first time since 1987 when Lift presented Need to Know at The Place.
